As principais conseqüências daquelas rodas
corda
encantada.

Assim, pois surgiu o grupo
trazer à tona toda a riqueza desta identidade cultural, proporcionando à

A origem do nome Itapuã vem
Mangabeira, Dorival Caymmi e a Rua Aristides Milton.
tupi.
Todavia, praticantes do candomblé ainda
The origin of the name comes from the tupi language Itapuã and meaning "stone who
snores," old residents report that there was a stone
that, before leaving, he snored at low tide. Located in
a Cove formed by clear waters, Itapuã neighbourhood has the
sea quiet and a shoreline full of coconut trees. It is
known that in the old days, there was as mall fishing village that exploited the whaling, to
produce refined oil, which was used in street
lighting.
In the 50, Itapuã was just a
colony of fishermen in a region away from the center of
Salvador (about 25 km). Itapuã lies after the neighborhood of Piatã and makesboundary
with the municipality of Lauro de Freitas. The oldest
part of the neighborhood is where you will find the statue of a
mermaid of Itapuã, monument built by the artist Mario
Cravo in tribute to fishermen and to the elements that
identify the sea, located at the intersection of the avenues Otavio Mangabeira, Dorival
Caymmi and Street Aristides Milton.

In Itapuã found the Abaeté Metropolitan
Park, opened in September 1993,03, situated in an area of environmental protection, with about of 12
1000 square meters, and is where you will find the most
famous dark waters of the lagoon city: Lagoa do Abaeté
or "dark lagoon", name of indigenous origin, supposedly tupi. Before, people
from the neighborhood used to fish and wash clothes, today, with the
encouragement of environmental preservation, the residents "survive"
with tourism. However, practitioners of candomblé still use the Abaeté Lagoon in religious
cults, practice quite old. In fact, a peculiar aspect of
the neighbourhood of Itapuã are religious and
cultural manifestations.
Itapuã laundering is a particular time for the neighborhood: characterized
by represent mass culture, with hegemonic values imposed
by specific social groups in front of the Church of Nossa
Senhora da Conceição. The doors of the Church are closed, while the
followers of the syncretic faith make a "spiritual cleaning" at
the entrance of the building. In recent years, the party has
been "modernized" with a wide row of trios,
which began to initiate, in this way, the opening of
the Carnival of Salvador.
Today, the feasts of Itapuã are accompanied
by violence and the sale of illicit drugs. The news always
show assaults and deaths among cops and robbers, where almost
always the residents of the neighborhood are the biggest victims. Here, it
is worth mentioning that most of the population residing in Itapuã can be characterized as
low in come.
To defend the cultural manifestation of its
residents, originated in Itapuã black blocks, such as Malê Debalê afro block,
The Ganhadeiras of Itapuã Group, Whale's Party, as
well as presentations of groups of capoeira and the strengthening of
candomblé as religious identity of the neighborhood.
